Cheerleader Sponsorship – Raised $720 in 4 days!

On, Thursday, May 17, 2018, Samona Lastrapes-Narcisse, a Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Adoption Recruiter with the Lake Charles & Lafayette Regions, contacted us about a young girl who wanted to purse her dreams of being a cheerleader.

“I have a youth, Latisha, who is in foster care. She recently tried out and made the St. Martinville cheer team. Latisha will be going into her Senior year of high school and it would break her heart if she could not continue cheering her last year. According to Latisha’s foster mother, Avey Gedward, cheer expenses have already totaled nearly $600 for uniforms and shoes. Additional funds are needed for camp, which is required. While the agency can provide $200 for recreational activities, fees have already far exceeded that amount.

I was provided with information about your organization from the Lafayette recruiter, Patricia Hebert. I understand that you have assisted youth in the area previously with Christmas and school needs. I am reaching out to request your assistance in making it possible for Latisha to remain a part of this team. Please contact me if you can assist or if you can direct me to another organization who may be willing to help.”

Foster Friends got permission to post Latisha’s story online, and within less than a week, we were able to raise $720! All of these funds will go directly to Latisha for her cheerleading expenses.  We can’t thank the people in our community enough for sharing her story and donating to this cause!

We also were approached by Abby Meaux, a professional photographer with Meauxtography, who has offered to tak Latisha’s Senior Portraits at no charge. We are always amazed to see how generous people in our community are to help the foster children in our area. Meauxtography does amazing work, so if you are in need of a photographer, consider MEAUXTOGRAPHY:
